The Benefits of Getting Organized In Your Twenties

Our twenties are simultaneously some of the best and most overwhelming years of our life. Many of us are graduating from college, getting our feet wet in our first real job, navigating the dating world, and if you’re anything like me, learning how to pay our taxes. At the end of the day, when do we have time to organize our home? And do we need to?

I’ve always been a little type A.

I need a clean, tidy environment in order to function. But there have been plenty of times I didn’t prioritize resetting my space, and it would always catch up with me. I would become so stressed and lose patience when my space was a mess, and looking back I would take my frustrations out on those who were closest to me. Sorry, Mom and Dad!

Today, I dedicate time to daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly resets where I clean and refresh systems throughout my apartment. And I have never felt as much joy or freedom as I have before.

That’s why I’m sharing the importance of getting organized in your twenties with you today. As someone who is preparing to enter their thirties (I can’t believe I’m saying that), I’m grateful that I’ve dedicated time in my twenties to decluttering, creating sustainable systems, and developing healthy habits. My goal for you is to feel as free and joyful as I do, living my best organized life.

Getting organized can significantly impact your success in both your personal and professional life. In the fast-paced world that we live in today, getting organized can be challenging because it involves discipline. Should you be online shopping right now if your closet is already full with clothes? Where are you going to hang that shirt once it arrives??

Now more than ever, it’s important to prioritize getting organized in your twenties because it will set you up for success — not just for your thirties, but for life.

Let’s chat benefits of organizing your home. Do you remember hearing teachers, parents, and anyone older than you constantly remind you the importance of time management? Well, unfortunately, they were right. Time management is an essential life skill that you cannot go through life without, and it goes hand in hand with getting organized. While it’s crucial for success in any career, it’s also vital in setting up systems and sticking to them. Being able to manage your time effectively and prioritize tasks will help you stay focused and motivated, which allows you to live life with less stress and be more productive.

Another benefit to getting organized in your twenties: it sets the foundation for healthy habits that will truly help you throughout your life. When you establish healthy habits early on, they become second nature, making it easier to maintain them over time. One of my non-negotiable habits that I created when moving into my apartment was always cleaning my kitchen before bed. Once I’m done with dinner, I put the dishes in the dishwasher, add detergent, clean the counters and the sink. I love starting a new day in a clean space and not having to worry about yesterday’s mess. Although it’s a small habit, I swear it is LIFE CHANGING.

To recap… it’s easy to feel uncertain as a twenty something. But the thing that may feel overwhelming to you now (in this case, investing time and money into organizing your home), may just be the thing that you look back at in 5, 10, 20 years and feel immense gratitude for.

Cheers to our twenties and to getting organized for good!
